Here to Honor Book Club: From Here to Eternity

Join us at Neighbor, in Chelsea, for refreshments and discussion of the book “From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find the Good Death” by Caitlin Doughty

ABOUT THIS EVENT:

“Minding our Mortality” [MoM] events by Here to Honor provide opportunities for contemplative thought and conversation—designated time and space for considering our impermanence in ways that tap into our deepest human longings and shape how we face our finitude.

From Here to Eternity: Traveling the World to Find the Good Death by Caitlin Doughty will serve as the starting point from which our group will embark upon a discussion of caring for the dead. It is recommended that you read this book prior to our meeting at Neighbor on Wednesday evening, November 15th. Beverages and snacks will be provided. A description of this nonfiction book is excerpted from Bookshop.org below:

Fascinated by our pervasive fear of dead bodies, mortician Caitlin Doughty embarks on a global expedition to discover how other cultures care for the dead. From Zoroastrian sky burials to wish-granting Bolivian skulls, she investigates the world's funerary customs and expands our sense of what it means to treat the dead with dignity. Her account questions the rituals of the American funeral industry--especially chemical embalming--and suggests that the most effective traditions are those that allow mourners to personally attend to the body of the deceased.
